MOVING CUSTOMIZATION BETWEEN WPWIN VERSIONS and
Preserving Customization when Re-installing
MOVING/PRESERVING WordPerfect for Windows CUSTOMIZATIONS
DESCRIPTION/STEP DETAILS
Back Up all files before
removing/reinstalling
Create a good backup of your system before installing any major new program or service
patch.

In Windows 95, create a backup of the registry as described in the article at
http://support.microsoft.com/support/windows/serviceware/win95/e9j2e5w89.asp

Windows 98 will automatically make a backup of the registry each time you restart your
computer.  See
http://support.microsoft.com/support/windows/inproducthelp98/registry_replacing.asp -
"Replacing your registry with the backup copy", or
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/ARTICLES/Q187/5/26.asp - "How to Restore
Windows 98 from a Full System Backup" if restoration is necessary.

In Windows NT there is no easy way to back up the registry and re-import it as in
Windows 95, but you should create a fresh "Emergency Repair Disk" using RDISK right
before the WPO2000 install.  See
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q101/2/29.asp - "How to Restore
Windows NT Over an Existing Installation" or
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q103/2/80.asp - "Q103280 - Using an
Emergency Repair Disk Created by Windows NT" if recovery is necessary.

Also for further information, see the Corel Knowledge Base articles with details of
WP8 customization, at  http://kb.corel.com/kbdocs/CWS8032/WP80WIN/WP80WIN_15962.htm
and http://kb.corel.com/kbdocs/CWS8032/WP80WIN/WP80WIN_18326.htm

Remove older versions before or after upgrading?
WP8 can be removed either before or after installing WPO2000; however, if you do
remove WP8 before installing WPO2000, currently it is recommended that you leave
installed CorelCentral 8 / Address Book 8 components.  Also, since WPO2000 does not
include a web browser, you may want to keep installed the CorelCentral 8 "Cscape"
(modified Netscape Navigator) program, or else download a more current version of
Netscape from http://www.netscape.com/computing/download/index.html?cp=hom07tdow.
Dealing with existing Templates
Much of your personalization (customized toolbars, menus, styles, and others) is
maintained in your default template.  If you used the default directory & files when
you installed WP8, your default template file will be WP8XX.WPT (where XX is replaced
by your language version of the program; for example, for US English it will be
WP8US.WPT, and for Canadian French it will be WP8CF.WPT) and it will be found in
/Corel/Suite8/Template/Custom WP Templates.

After installing Suite 2000, copy – not move – your old WP8XX.WPT file to the new
Custom WP Templates folder (if you used the default install paths, that should be in
.../corel/WordPerfect Office 2000/template/Custom WP Templates).  From within WP9, use
Tools, Settings, Customize.  On each tab except the Property Bars, COPY the objects
you want from the WP8 default template to the WP9 default template.  This will allow
you to copy over the customized toolbars, menus, and keyboards.

However, do not use the WP8 template directly as your default.  Also it's not
recommended to copy over or otherwise replace the standard WP9 property bars, although
you can do so, because they are context-sensitive.  Instead, carefully add only
context-sensitive functionality (say, border/fill to the table prop bar if you use
that a lot in tables.)  When moving from WP8, it's *strongly* suggested that you
re-create any specific modifications rather than copy over the property bars, since
these are context-sensitive and different in WP9 than in WP8.  For example, if you use
a WP8 template directly in WP9 as your default template, you will have difficulty
handling the new envelope functionality since you will not have the one-click access
to entering return or recipient addresses, address positions, envelope size, Postnet
codes, etc. that are all present only on the WP9 Envelope property bar and did not
exist in WP8.

If for some reason this goes awry, you can just rename WP9US.WPT and let WP9 re-create
it on startup, fresh & clean and unspoiled!

Many settings, particularly those that relate to your choices for customization (such
as application bar, preferred views, toolbars showing, etc.) are stored in the
registry based, and will have to be re-selected from within WPO2000, and individually
re-selected for each user on Windows NT stations.

You can copy your other personalized templates to WP9's Custom WP Templates, but if
they include prompts to obtain information from the Address Book you will have to open
each template for editing in WP9 and re-build the prompts, since the Corel Address
Book 9 uses some slightly different field names and you will have to set the template
to point to the new field names.

Preserving QuickWords If you have set up any "Quick Words" from WP8, they are stored in QW8XX.WPT file
(again with the "XX" representing your language code, such as ‘EN' or ‘DE' etc.) which
is also found in the /CustomWPTemplates folder.  Suite 2000 should have moved those
entries for you (check after install) but if not, just copy QW8EN.WPT to WP9's /Custom
WP Templates folder and re-name it QW9EN.WPT.

An alternative method which will not over-write any built-in WP9 QuickWords is to open
your default WP9 template for editing, using File/New from Project, Options, Edit WP
Template ... then use the "Copy objects" function on the template bar to copy the
QuickWords from the WP8 template.

Moving/Re-compiling Macros Most of the personalized macros you have developed in WP8 should run OK in WP9.  Just
copy them over to the WP9 default macros folder (which you will have named by going to
Tools, Settings, File).  The best method for verifying that your macros work properly
in WP9 is simply to open each in WP9, save and compile again, then run the macro to
verify results are consistent with operation under WP8.
User Word List (UWL) files, QuickCorrect, personal "dictionary" All of your QuickCorrect entries are in your UWL file, along with all spelling
additions you have made when you clicked "Add" during document spell-checks.  The
WT8XX.UWL files are placed in different locations depending upon your system setup
(standalone or network), version of Windows, and sometimes your Login ID (username).
The best way to find the files on your own system is to use Win95/98/NT Start, Find.
and search for *.UWL.  Whichever .UWL file has the language abbreviation for your
version of WP is the main one, but it doesn't hurt to back up all of the .UWL files.
Assuming you were using WT80US.UWL as your main user word list file, Suite 2000 should
have picked up those entries for you.  Check QuickCorrect after installing WP9 to
see.  If your old entries were not moved for you, find where Suite 2000 installed its
.UWL files, re-name WT9US.UWL (assuming US version) in case you need it again, and
copy WT80US.UWL to the same location, and re-name it as WT9US.UWL.

An alternative way to address user word lists is to use the included speller utility
WT9SPTLEN.EXE, to convert your UWL to a list.  Then use the speller utility to convert
that into a WP9 UWL.  This is just a "safety" step to avoid potential problems.  Add
the UWL in as a secondary UWL, by opening the SpellChecker, when it finishes don't
close it, use Options, User Word Lists, Add, point to that file, etc.

Preserving Address Books
and other CorelCentral Data

For safety, export your Suite 8 Address Books to .ABX file format as a backup.  If you
have left CorelCentral8 / AB8 installed, you should find that when you open AB9 the
AB8 Address Books can be found under "MAPI" in the AB9 list of Address Books.  If the
AB8 program is already removed, the information in those address books still is
generally available by highlighting CorelCentral books and using File/Open and opening
all available books shown.

If your AB8 information is shown under the MAPI books, create a new CorelCentral9
[CC9] book with your preferred name, then display the corresponding MAPI AB8 book, and
under the menu item Edit use "Select All" entries, then Edit/Copy.  Then highlight the
new CC9 book and use Edit/Paste to copy the entries to the new book.  Once you have
verified that all of your information from the AB8 books has been transferred
properly, you can completely remove all remaining WP8 components.

After WPO2000's SP1 has been issued, it is expected that you can simplify the transfer
process by importing the backup .ABX files you made.  In AB9 find "Moving from Address
Book 8" in the Help file, and in the latter part of the help file you will find
instructions for importing AB8 .ABX files.  Follow those instructions exactly.

Note that the handling of Organization and Person entries between AB8 & AB9 may be
slightly different.  Also, as mentioned in the "TEMPLATES" section above, the new
names for some fields will mean that the mapping of fields for use in templates has
changed somewhat.

Using personal/custom graphics in new versions
If you have any "personal" graphic files, such as your signature or company logo, the
should be able to be used directly in their current location from within WPO2000.

If you have clipart or other graphics files from WP7 or WP8 – including Scrapbook &
QAD files (!) – that you would like to use in WPO2000, you can now import those
graphics into the new "scrapbook" which is really a graphics browser/indexer.  Please
note, however, that this procedure may use quite a bit of disk space to re-index the
files.  From within WP9, use Insert, Graphic, Clipart to start the scrapbook.  Click
the "import clips" button and browse to the file location.  Click OK, and you will be
able to import the image(s), and be given an opportunity to edit the properties for
the image(s) as they are imported.  You can also go back & re-group the images more
conveniently for your needs after the import, and/or add or change the image
properties at any future time.

Watermarks not available in WP9/WP10 Since there are only a limited selection of Watermarks available on the WP9 CDS, you
may wish to import your WP8 Watermarks for use in WP9.  You can do this by opening
WP9, Insert/Graphics/Clipart; [at this point it is recommended that you create a new
Watermarks category, then] click Import Clips, and browse to the
\COREL\SUITE8\GRAPHICS\CLIPART\OFFICE\WATERMRK folder either on your hard drive or on
the WP8 install CD.  As with other imported graphics, this will also offer you an
opportunity to edit the properties, which also can be done at a later time.
Data/Document file Formats between versions The file format has not changed between versions, so all data files created in WP
Suite 7 or 8 programs should be fully usable in Suite 2000.  Any SlideShow files or
diagrams you have created in Presentations should also be fully usable in Suite 2000..

Custom Paper Size/types
Back Up AGAIN when you're through Once you have completed the WPO2000 install, and re-customized things the way you want
them, and everything seems OK, make a backup copy of WP9US.WPT – which will contain
your newly customized toolbars, menu bars, and keyboard setups – "just in case".
